Service Provision

Individual Session

One-on-one session between myself and the client

The language of children is play.

As such, play is an integral part of child therapy sessions. Puppets, sand tray, dolls, foam swords, and such, all provide the child with the opportunity to show what they are experiencing and how they are making meaning of their world.

I am in the process of becoming a Registered Play Therapist and have a supervisor working with me though the process.

Adult sessions might include bringing the subconscious to the conscious through deep listening, reflection, and making connections that bring integration to life experiences.

Dyadic Session

Session with parent/caregiver and child together

Recommended for children ages 0-5+

Having a parent actively engage in session with the child means that the child has access to resources and interventions 24/7 since the parent can continue to utilize them to support the child in between sessions.

I am fluent in sign language and can utilize it as a therapeutic tool to facilitate building communication and decreasing frustration between preverbal/nonverbal children and their parents.

Often we might start dyadic sessions between parent and child after laying a foundation of individual sessions utilizing Child-Centered Play Therapy techniques.

Couple/Family Session

The relationship/family is the “client” and sessions might address roles, relational qualities, stressors, and expectations within the family system which may contribute to negative experiences or problematic behaviors or patterns.

Collateral Session

One-on-one session with myself and someone integral to the care or support of the child in order to enhance the child’s service provision. So this is a one-on-one without the child present but still focused on the child. This might include biological parents, adoptive parents, step-parents, foster parents, grandparents, teachers, social workers, pediatricians, etc. In honor of privacy and confidentiality, written authorization must be given by the child’s legal guardian prior to the occurrence of any collateral sessions.

Program Consultation

One-time or Recurrent

Recommended to help you explore how your program is considering and supporting the holistic mental health needs of children and their families. Program elements explored might include child behaviors, curriculum, routine, tools, child/staff relationships, staff/staff relationships, staff/admin relationships, staff/parent relationships, and communication strategies.

Covid Precautionary Measures

The service provision option with no chance of exposure to covid is telehealth. This has been successfully done, even with very young children. It can actually be especially effective for parenting coaching since the child is in their home environment and challenging behaviors may show up in session sooner than in an office setting with novel toys.

However, based upon expressed needs by families, I am offering in-person sessions one day per week in Round Rock, Texas. While in-person sessions present the chance of exposure to covid, here are the measures I am taking to reduce risk as much as possible:

  • I am fully vaccinated

  • HEPA air purifier in office, running continually

  • Hands sanitized at the beginning of each session

  • Toys sanitized in between each session

Those exposed to or who have tested positive for Covid may either cancel or reschedule as virtual sessions until symptom-free.
